Darkened LCD

By elohex ·
My LCD is so dark i can't see a thing except if i use an external monitor. Its a HP Omnibook XE2 DC, it occured when i installed wrong sound drivers and kept booting to safe mode [win98se]. Should i update the BIOS? Or look for the correct LCD driver? I couldn't get the LCD driver[Omnibook XE2 monitor] when i downloaded the drivers from the site.

Try this link:
http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z5F921D98 It is 18MB of files for your laptop using Windows 98.
My suspicion though that any laptop old enough to have W98 on it that the LCD is dying and that probably won't be worth repairing.
good luck,

I suspect that the driver installation issue is simply a coincidence.
It is possible that a power saving mode was enabled that turned off the back-light lamp for the LCD.

You most likely have 1 of 2 possible hardware failures.

1. The back-light lamp has failed and needs to be replaced.

2. The power supply for the back-light lamp has failed and needs to be replaced.
