DAT Tape drive problems

By lbrower ·
We have a External SCSI 160/320 DAT Tape drive. We were having a problem with it not kicking the tape out so we had an extra tape drive so I replaced it and we are still having this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem or how to get the tape drive out. I have ejected from the server and it says it ejected it but it doesn't. If you do it on the tape drive the lights just flash and sounds like it is trying but never ejects.

My first guess is a power supply issue

typically the logic part of the electronics runs at 5V and the motors all run at 12V.

If the 12V portion of things is not up to snuff, then the motor that ejects the tape won't get enough current to move the tape out.

What make/model of drive?

I never tried to manually eject a dat tape....there isn't a little 'manual eject' hole like there is on a CD-ROM drive??

How old are the tapes?

How recently have you cleaned the drive?
