Data Center Classification

By Nikki99 ·
When a customer or client (or anyone) asks about your data center classification, to what are they referring? Are data centers classified according to size, physical/data security, technology, products, services, support, what?

We have been unable to even get a complete understanding of what this particular customer was searching for. We have asked dozens of vendors and consultants if they ever heard of how one's data center is classified. We have also searched the net - but to no avail. Until we find an accepted industry standard posted by some backed or reputable firm, we will claim no classifacation or N/A. Anyone else have any comments.

Main dimension is physical/data security. There are a few international guidelines for this, use search engines to find more 'bout them. Next to this there are national guidelines - e.g. for my bank there's guidelines from the Central Bank but they partly refer to the international ones (and add some local stuff).

Have fun,
