Data Recovery

By rickporritt35 ·
I have a floppy disk which has somehow corrupted. The files on there are all now named with what looks like 'webding' style characters. I can't access any of the files (mainly Word Docs).

1. Why does this happen?
2. Can anyone recommend any FREEWARE utility that will recover the files?

You can try the evaluation copy of BadCopy Pro to recover your files.

Here is the url:http://www.jufsoft.com/

Hope this helps...:0)

Yes, found that previously - it only allows you to see if files are recoverable but then you have to purchase full copy to use it. For the rarity of the situation I was rather hoping to find a FREEWARE prog for the job. Thanks

Copy the files off and see if renaming them back to word docs works.

Already tried that one - the files can't be copied/moved

Some available recovery software does not work with floppy disk.
Try:
1. Change your floppy drive, or open your disk from other computers (if possible on a LAN).
2. Open your word document from word 97.

I finally managed to recover some data with one of many freebie tools I tried.

Thanks to all for suggestions
