Get another box

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to DATABSE Question

Personally I'd build a spare, update it, copy on the database, test as much as you can.
Then copy on the live database again and swap it in.
Give it a while to make sure it's working, then update your real box.

This will minimise any potential to lose any database changes and give you a reasonable level of confidence that it isn't going to nipples up on you.
Whatever you do don't just start chucking windows updates on your servers, MS have been known to get that ever so horribly wrong, but you'll get the blame.
