Dell Laptop and Iomega Zip drive

    Locked

    by jamesw ·

Anybody know why an Iomega USB zip
drive connected to a Dell Inspiron PC
(Win 98) thru a docking port would only
allow a user to access the drive once,
then freeze the drive, requiring the user to
reboot his system? I have reinstalled the
drivers, and even swapped out the Zip
drive for a new one, and the problem
    recurs. Any ideas?

This may not be the solution to your problem, but we had numerous Dell laptops that had to be checked with a diskette from Dell to see if they were among the many that had defective memory installed. These were the Inspiron 3500 models. Good luck. Also, you may want to make sure that USB support is installed correctly and try another port if there’s one available.

Problem could be due to older USB chipset. Many high speed USB devices will not work correctly on these.

Dells have a bad habbit of not being up to day on the bios revision, also remove & reinstall the driver. Have you verified that the port is good with another usb device? Also most laptops have issues with the ir port, attempt to turn it off. On the Lat. series for example it will conf. with the pcmcia modem. Also check it on a second system, a “Baseline system”. -al
