Dell Latitude D505- Wireless Network Connection woes

by irongrave . Updated 16 years, 5 months ago

I have a Dell Latitude D505 that I am administering, running XP SP2.

I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

My Wireless Network Connection indicator DOES NOT work. You know, the systray icon that displays the status of the connection.

When I am actually able to connect, it still displays as disconnected. In addition, it displays disconnected in the “View Available Wireless Networks” list. The connection will be slightly slow, and it will only last about 5-10 minutes before it will be actually disconnected again.

I am connecting to a nearby (10 feet) Linksys WAP along with about 15 other users, all also running XP SP2.

This computer IS able to connect via a wired ethernet connection

I have tried the Winsock XP fix, that did not help.
The Dell wireless utility IS installed, but “Let this tool manage my wireless settings” is turned off, and Wireless Zero Configuration is started.

Spyware was recently cleaned off the computer, also. As far as I can tell, everything except this is working correctly.

Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
