Dell with a GSM ready-card

By johan.rydberg@tetrapak. ·
Dell latitud CPi, win95. On boot the computer hangs when the modem is in the slot. When my customer puts it out, the computer boots properly.

Dell with a GSM ready-card

by ktyfuller In reply to Dell with a GSM ready-car ...

There are two ways you can solve this problem. One: there is something called a Dell Service Tag on every dell machine. If the machine has been registered, you can look it up at www.support.dell.com. If not, you can look up the exact machine, with general specifications at http://support.dell.com/docs/systems/pmojav/specs.htm The second solution is this web site, which is one I found that I'm assuming is your specific GSM card http://www.falcom.de/e/e-produkte.html
Please let me know if I can be of further help to you. ktyfuller@juno.com

The Dell website has all the current drivers for their products available on it's web site. The best way to find the right drivers is to input the service tag number and then goto the machine specific downloads section. Try the latest drivers for the modem AND the PC slots as well.

I tend to agree with both answers. However, Dell's support site is actually http://support.dell.com. You can input your service tag, and get the latest drivers for your modem, if it was purchased with the system. Try fully uninstalling the modem and all its associated files, rebooting w/o the modem installed, then reinstalling the card and its SW. It is still locks on the boot, you probably need to replace the modem card.

Where does it hang? If it hangs during post, then it is probably not a driver issue. If it hangs while booting to os or in the os it could be a driver issue. Try moving the card to a different slot to make sure the slot on the motherboard is not bad. Also try putting in a diff modem. Also, check to see if there are any IRQ conflicts.
