Dell XPS 1330 Laptop Screen Problem

    by deniwor182 ·

    Hey guys,
A few minutes ago I’m working on my Dell XPS 1330 laptop and suddenly it started getting all these coloured lines on the screen. Then it just goes white is my graphics card broken? If not any advice?

It’s either the graphic card, the screen itself or the cable between them. Since it seems to be more than 10 years old, repair is most likely impossible or too expensive.

Surely your company can buy a nice new laptop for you. I’m sorry to see they didn’t do that in June already and that it now happens again.

      One way to test….

To see if it is your graphics card/chip or the monitor would be to connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if it has the same video issue.

Make sure the video drivers are up to date.

As Kees mentioned, due to its age it might be time to replace it vs. trying to fix it.

Given the age, I’d try this as well.

Remember this looks to be over 10 years old I’d first secure my files and “WHAT I CAN’T LOSE” on backups.

Next I’d do the usual deep clean of the insides and replace heatsink compound inside. There are YouTubes on such work so I won’t go into detail here.

As I work such a laptop I check that the fan(s) work like new and replace failed fans.

Maybe, just maybe that will bring it back.
