Deploying Win XP, unattended, network distribution point

by decades . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

I am quite new to the IT world, and my current project is deploying XP from Win2k(yes, we’re behind). I’ve set up a distribution point on the server which is shared. I have the answer file set up to be read only. I begin the process using a batch file I made with the options set and all goes well for awhile. The product key goes in, the files are copied to the local machine…but then, starting with the question about deleting the current windows files, it seems to lose all the information in the answer file. I believe it has restarted by this point, but I come and go while it’s doing its thing and haven’t seen for sure. I keep looking all over for some info about why it seems to lose track of the answer file, but I can’t find any reason. I’m guessing it’s something I’m missing, but again, I’m pretty new to this. Any ideas? Any at all?

Also, is there any way using this method to repartition and format the hard drive? I tried a script in the Windows XP Deployment Resource Kit, but it didn’t work since that would require deleting the system files. We’re trying to start fresh, then chain Office 2003 to it.
