Deployment Software

By mlcambare ·

Can somebody please give me a suggestion on what Deployment Software is good/best out there? I work for a med-size web based company and I'm trying to find a deployment software that is not too expensive and yet provides the most capability. Currently we deploy softwares, patches, and files manually. Sitting in front of more than a hundred machines can be really tiring especially if you're doing the same thing over and over again so can someone please help me and give me ideas on where to find deployment softwares?

Thanks in advance!

Deployment Software

One of the cheapest tools around is WinInstall. In terms of installation methods supported it is still top notch; in terms of architecture it is slowly ageing. We're still using it here for 20,000 desktops and it's great fun.

Even cheaper of course is Microsoft IntelliMirror (or to say it better its AIS, Application Installation Service, component). However works solely with W2K and XP desktops and solely when you do have ADS.

Note that all these tools are suitable for servers (Windows and sometimes Unix/Linux) as well as for desktops. For Unix/Linux servers however sometimes it is easier to make a DYI central installation system, it's not that difficult there to script all changes...

Have fun,
