Device File needed

By ESPO-JOHN ·
on Start up message appears
"Can not find a divice file that mey be needed to tun Windows or Windows application"
MSmouse.vxd
you can press enter and bypass this message
windows 95 OS. The mouse seems to work okay, no application seems effected.
There is a line in the System.ini file which refrences this file should it be refrenced some where else?

Have you or anyone loaded any kind of a pointer enhancement program? One annoying one that comes to mind is comet cursor.

Somewhere in the configuration or installation of that program, something has told your system that the system has a MS mouse. If win95 runs ok, ie your mouse works after cancelling through the error, simply remove the line in system.ini

You should be able to poke around the system.ini and registry and do a search for msmouse.vxd and rem it out with a semi-colon if it's in the ini or remove the reg key if it's i nthe registry.

The other way would be to get the windows cabs (whether on CD or in a directory and extract the file using the command

extract /a win95_02.cab msmouse.vxd and then copy the file to c:\windows\system.

Good luck to you

Mark
