DFS Data Issue

By George@2ndfloorcomputers ·
I have two 2003 R2 Standard edition Domain Controllers in my Network.

I'm using DFS to replicate and backup 6 or 7 shares. I'm hoping for a Fault Tolerant Solution. My shares are located on the Domain. (\\domain.local\sharename).

I started experiencing some problems in the logs with people updating at the same time. Had a some minor data loss.

I decided on two of my shares to disable replication from my second server to my first. I changed the network shares to \\server1\sharename from the domain one.

How can I setup my DFS so that

1) It's fault tolerant without changing the share names from the Domain.
2) Server two only acts as a backup server. People do not use it when Server 1 is up.

I just want Server 2 to be a backup server, but kick in when/if Server 1 should die or go down.

Any suggestions?
