DHCP IP assignment

By siphoakasiwa ·
My client machines on the network are running on DHCP. If i ping a machine it returns the proper network suffix e.g. 192.162.50.XXXX ,but when i go onto the machines and check there client machine IP addresses they have given themselves private addresses. Is it possible for a machine to request for an ip from a DHCP server, have the server give the address but not have the client get the IP?

It is possible to have a request sent and never get the response back. A sniffer would show what is happening. But I think thats a bit musch right now. I suggest you check if the PC that is requesting the IP has its firewall enabled. If so disable it and try again. If it works (yes I know its odd to have that blocked but.......) Then maybe port 68 (dhcp client port) is blocked

BTW port 67 may also be blocked.
