DHCP not working

By fklauber ·
We are running XP sp3 on a network. We are in a remote office but are logging into the same domain as others in another building. Also, we are on a separate segment.

When logging in, users are supposed to be able to get IP's, etc assigned automatically. However, the onlyh way I've been able to get them on-line is to fill in all the fields in TCIP properties; directing their PC's to our DNS servers, assigning an IP address and specifying DNS info.

I'm stumped big time.

Check your router

by Mohammad Oweis In reply to DHCP not working

Check you router configuration, and make sure that it can relay DHCP traffic.

You should have configured a scope for this subnet in your DHCP.
Then configured your router to relay DHCP traffic to your DHCP server, like this:
On the router of the remote site enter the configuration mode of your ethernet interface then use this command:
ip helper-address x.x.x.x
where x.x.x.x is your DHCP IP address
