Dhcp server behind a router

OK i have a home network setup. Currently i have Modem>server>switch>pc. The server is handing out the ips and eveything so that part works but they cant connect to the internet. now should i give the client pcs the dns of the ISP or router. or should i create my own dns server.

You said your setup is:

Modem>server>switch>pc

Yet, you reference a router. Where in the above setup do you see a router?

Also, define "server". Is this a computer with server software running?

Based on the setup you provided above, you do NOT give the client PC's the DNS of the ISP. You set the PC's to access the internet through the LAN and let the server take care of it, period. It's the server that needs to be configured.

Configure DNS on your server. It won't take long in a single server environment and you will get some practice with DNS configuration. Make sure that the DNS forwarders are configured to point to the ISPs DNS servers and then have the PC point to the server.
