Dial-Up problem

By Islander ·
When I try to connect my laptop to a phone line with more that one line I get no dial tone. FOr example I used a phone line from a hotel front desk that has 6 lines and hooked it up to my laptop. When I try to dial-in there is not dialtone. Is thereaddition software/hardware that is needed to get this working? Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks in advanced
Islander

It is very probable that the hotel line you were trying to use was a DIGITAL line. You need ANALOG line for a modem

As answer 1 stated, it is very possible that the hotel has phones that are network devices.

If not, for connecting a "standard" phone cord to a multi-line jack, you need a line adapter.

The wireing for a dual line jack is not compatable with asingle line cable.
