dial up to cable IE problem

By grinder3 ·
After I went to Cable I have been having problems keeping my Internet Explorer connected.
I have to keep going into Local Area Connection, then repairing it under the support tab. This works for up to 5 minutes at a time. The tech reps via phone have no idea. The IPConfig pings for awhile then stops. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, Try checking your LAN line, make sure that it is not getting unplugged, or near (noise). If it passes near a refridgerator or something, it would make sense that after a little while it loses the connection (Some appliances turn on and off frequently).
If that doesnt work, try uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP, when you ping the router, also try pinging 127.0.0.1 and see if your NIC card driver needs to be updated or the NIC replaced. This should be a good starting point

depending on your version of windows, look on google for a program called IEradicator. it's VERY effective, but make SURE you download the 450k ie6setup.exe file from microsoft first. use ieradicator to eradicate all vestiges of internet explorer, then use the ie6setup file to reinstall it. a great many problems can be fixed by a clean install of IE, and this is pretty much the safest way to do it.

You probably should ask them to send a tech out and check signal levels it could be a return signal problem. I am a servicetech at Charter Communication and its my speciality. Depending on what modem you have you can monitor the signal.
