dial up to cable IE problem

After I went to Cable I have been having problems keeping my Internet Explorer connected.
I have to keep going into Local Area Connection, then repairing it under the support tab. This works for up to 5 minutes at a time. The tech reps via phone have no idea. The IPConfig pings for awhile then stops. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
