Just throwing this one out there to see if anyone else has come across it. We were having errors show that shares have gone missing. Looking in the event viewer on the server console you get:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Server
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 2511
    Date: 11/08/2004
    Time: 9:03:43 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: LCSQL
Description: The server service was unable to
recreate the share Taxdept because the directory
G:\TAX DEPT GROUPS no longer exists.
    -0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-
But doing remote management you get:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Server
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 2511
    Date: 11/08/2004
    Time: 9:03:43 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: LCSQL
Description: The server service was unable to
recreate the share Taxdept because the directory
G:\TAX DEPT GROUPS no longer exists. Please run
“net share Taxdept /delete” to delete the share,
or recreate the directory G:\TAX DEPT GROUPS.

      Shares in registry

Yep, had that. It’s because shares are kept in the registry and if you just delete the folder without unsharing it first it gets confused. You need to remove the pointers.

Delete the share using ‘net share’, rather than doing it from the registry.
