DirectX 9.0b installation problems

By adrianrusn ·
I've tried for a few days now to get DirectX 9.0b to install but every time I try it gives me the message that that it hasn't passed windows logo testing. I donwloaded it from the MS website and I updated my video card drivers but those didnt solve anything. Can someone please help me out?!?! I need DirectX 9.0 to play Halo.

What version of Windows?
What video card?
How much RAM?
What motherboard / CPU / chip-set?

If Windows 98, there can be problems unless the video driver is specifically written for DirectX 9.
If the driver is more than 6 months old, it likely does NOT support DirectX 9.

For W98 or Me, you want between 196 and 384MB of RAM. More than 511MB can cause problems.
Less than 64MB will limit your system.

Check for an update for the chip-set drivers for your motherboard.

Download it from the Windows Update Catalog section to your "My Documents" folder on the hard drive first. Then click on the .exe file and install it w/ all running programs closed, always do it after freshly updating your video driver w/ a DX9.0 compat. version. This is no doubt in my mind the most troublesome DX update I ever encountered yet.
