Try the registry

by Toivo Talikka In reply to Disable Java Balloons

You may be able to push a registry update to the users to modify BalloonShown from 1 to 0 under the following key:
HKCU\Software\Javasoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.5.0_10.

Good luck, I have not tried it.

I have tried that

by rlalseta In reply to Try the registry

Yes i have tried this previously it does work.Using the registry but the problem we have about 2000 pc's and this will be a problem to through each and everyone.

Thats why i thought the only easy way would be using the Group Policy.

Thanks for the suggestion.

GPO

by Toivo Talikka In reply to I have tried that

You can silently run a .reg file from the logon script associated with a Group Policy Object, as shown in the following articles from Knowledgebase and MSDN:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310516/ http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnw2kmag01/html/DistributingRegistryChanges.asp

I guess the trick with 2000 PCs is to make sure in the script with a few IF statements that the registry key we modify points to the right version of Java Runtime.

Thank you it works

by rlalseta In reply to GPO

Hello,

Thank you,i have tested for like 5 PC and it works so far i will be deploying it for the whole lot soon.

These are the steps,they way i have installed on My windows 2003 Server and GPO.

Firstly
START->run->regedit

HKCU\Software\Javasoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.5.0_10.
Please check the value of BalloonShown is it '1' or '0'.

Use any text editor to create your own .ADM file.

Below is how i have done.

CLASS USER
CATEGORY "Java Balloons "
POLICY "Disable/Enable Java Balloon Pop-ups"
KEYNAME "software\JavaSoft\1.5.0_10\StorageDevicePolicies"
VALUENAME "BalloonShown"
VALUEON NUMERIC 1
VALUEOFF NUMERIC 0
END POLICY
END CATEGORY;

Create your own group policy.

Below is a website which will guide you through to add a new Administrative Template to an existing (or new) GPO?
http://www.petri.co.il/adding_new_administrative_templates_to_gpo.htm
Close the server.

To apply on the computer.

start->run->cmd->type GPUPDATE /FORCE

it will restart the computer and then see what are the effects
