Disappearing running apps in toolbar

By borrim ·
I have a customer whose toolbar (win9 looks as though there are no running applications. If he toggles by using the keyboard they are there. What would cause the running apps icons to disappear. I am not talking about systray, just the regular toolbar across the bottom.

Disappearing running apps in toolbar

This is apparently caused by a trojan called FriendGreeting. Read about it here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.friendgreet.worm.html

(delete any spaces in that URL).

Uisng add/remove programs, uninstall "WinSrv Reg", update your virus definitions and run a full scan.

This was the answer!!!!! I printed the instructions from symantec's sites for removing and the icons for the applicatinos are back. One note, the computer didn't actually have the virus/worm anymore, but the directory and registry entries were. So just because you don't see the virus doesn't mean it can't be the problem. Thanks thanks thanks

I responded yesterday, but I don't know what happened to my comment. How did you know that virus does this? I have looked several places and see no reference to hidden icons on the toolbar.
