Disaster Recovery- Hot Site

By mcantine ·
I'm looking for some products that would be beneficial in creating a DR hot site for a hosting company. There are currently 2 windows servers running 2003 and 2000 needing to be placed in this hotsite environment. What solutions are available to make this work?

Sorta depends on how much data, how much money, how much time...

Failover vs clustering/load-balancing

One solution I've worked with is a Hitachi SAN that is mirrored in real-time over a dedicated private data circuit to the hotsite. In order to switch sites, you break the mirror, bring up the servers, make the DNS changes. This is needed because there is a LOT of data, so replication has to be very fast and multiple OSs are involved

the other approach is to just do load-sharing or Geo-clustering between multiple sites, with round-robin DNS ..using tools like DoubleTake.

The only caveat is not to get too wedded to solutions that work with only one OS...you may want/need to deploy multiple OSs.

One suggestion is just to use another hosting company for your hotsite.
