Disc Error

By wakim ·
Hello there, I need help I have a disc error, that is when I on my computer the page said Disc error.I would like to know is there anyway to get back the data in this drive. Which is the best way for a layman to do it. My OS is a P3. 1GHz.with 254RAM, Windows 98SE. Recently I came across software, which claim it could repair back a bad drive can you tell me which software is it? Thanks. Chee.

Hi, In 98se go to "acessories" "system tools" "scan disk" check "thorough scan" box and "auto fix errors" box. This may well repair your problem and it will tell you if any clusters on your hard drive are bad. As soon as you can get full boot you should BACKUP all files and any other data you can not afford to lose. In the future BACKUP your data at least once a month or oftener. I BACKUP any important data before leaving my pc for the day if the data is truely important.
once a Hard drive starts to go get a new one.
playing with a BAD HD is lighting a fuse and you are strapped to the TNT.

Try Norton system works if the above does not work. It has some good disk recovery tools.

Also I just read in June 2003 Edition of PC World on page 90. They talk about a last resort of saving a HD by putting it in the freezer for 1 hr to change the geometry of the head and platters. Sounds strange, that's why I included the magazine name with page number.

Good luck. Remember to back up data often.

Just a note... I have used the freezer method a few times (thank God for break rooms at work) and have actually been able to recover data. Work quick though, they won't stay up for long.
