Disconnected Network Drive as nonadmin

By amstel219 ·
We are using Windows 2000 and XP workstations mapping to a Novell Network (Client 4.**). Once we remove Administrator Rights (lowered to Power Users) from the local workstation the mapped drives appear to be disconnected. You can still access the drives but on 2k they have a red X and on XP they say "Disconnected Network Drive". This is only happening on some machines and if you add back admin rights the drives appear correctly.

If you remove the Novell Client and reinstall it Power User has no issue viewing the drives. There must be an easier fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

r the usernames and passwords the same as the workstations on the novell server. How r the drives mapped...through scripts ya just mapping throug windows. I would that u discoonect the drives and remap the drives after removing the admin rights. This should solve the problem

Another possiblity is this tip:
Drive Mappings Randomly Being Lost
Novell Cool Solutions by Adam Gracey

I have found "DisableDFS" on some of my users, but not all.

We are still using Office 2000 and it is very unforgiving if you aren't an Administrator, so MS's lovely security plan is useless as far as i can see.

Thanks for the idea but it didnt help. I added the DisableDFS and turned it to 0 but the drives are still showing up as disconnected. I can open the mappings and work fine. Very strange that this only happens when the user has nonadmin rights.
