Disk Defrag on Nt4.0 Server

By duane ·
I know that NT4.0 is supposed to self defrag but I don't believe it.
Anyway, has anybody run Diskeeper on a raid 5 array?
Developer says it's ok, but just wanted to check other people's results.
And yes, I am trying to go to 2003 Server but management hasn't allocated funds.

yes, when i found out nt4 couldn't self defrag, i also found it unbelievable. but true. you used to be able to download and run diskkeeper lite for workstations. it is worth the money to shell out for licensed copy of diskkeeper for server. i certainly defrag my raid drives. have you visited to see all the wonderful articles there...

Diskkeeper is a small price to pay to defrag an NT server ... pretty fast too. I don't have raid.

Yeah..I'm running E/E Diskeeper's latest on my servers, a mix of NT 4.0, W2k and Svr 2003..
No problems so far.
Good Luck!

Not a problem running, Nt never defragged itself. Been working on NT since it first came out with NT 3.5, however defrag utils such as Diskkeeper only came out for NT 4 and higher. It's a good product and worth buying.
