    Distorted display on 17″ monitor

    Locked

    by rage ·

I picked up a Compudyne 17″ multi-scan color monitor from a friend, and when I tested it, I found that the monitor works fine, except that there’s what looks like a ripple in the display, and it fades off to the right. I have already ruled out the computer. The problem lies somewhere inside the monitor. I’m still looking for schematics and any other information that might help. The monitor is model number: KD-1700G KDS

Also: my apologies, I closed the thread prematurely.

This could be the way the rays are shot from the tube to the screen and it is problby in the way the monitor displays on the screen,I am using a mitsubishi I get a line across the screen.technolgy has not been perfected and it is to technical to explain. check the PC WORLD WEB SITE and check to see if they did a bench test on this model and read the pros and cons of what they have to say about 17 inch monitors.

Hi, maybe this will help you locate your skematics for the monitor. Compudyne products are packaged by CompUSA. You should be able to locate the model number on the back of the monitor and go to a local CompUSA and have them look it up and/or check their website, http://www.compusa.com.

Your monitor is made by Korea Data Systems (hence the KDS in the model number). Go to http://www.kdsusa.com for tech support.

I suppose this has already been tried, but I was always told not to assume. Make sure that there are no flourescent lights or motors of any kind (possibly a clock or fan, etc). The electrical noise from these devices have been known to cause many a monitor to distort.
      Good Luck!

what you may have is a 60Mhz hum bar.
this is caused by having an electrical wire to close to the monitor cable. this happens with older monitors, Or poorly insulated wire. Try to take all electrical wire away from the monitor cable at least 1 foot. if that does not work change your monitors refresh rate off of 60Mhz this will stop the hum bar.

You can try a couple of things. Try changing the refresh rate of the monitor and see if that helps. Also, check any devices that may be plugged into the same outlet as the wire, such as lights or fans. I have seen monitors go berzerk when this isthe case. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

      rage,

Nobody else has mentioned this, so I will. Try right-clicking the desktop and select “Properties”. Then go to the “Settings” tab and click the “Advanced” button at the bottom of the page. Next click the “Adapter” tab and find the adapter’s refresh rate text box, toward the bottom of that page. This should say “Optimal”. If it does not, click within the white portion of that box to drop down a list of available options, and select “Optimal”. Also, while on that Adapter page, checkand make sure the installed adapter driver listed matches your actual hardware. If it does not, click on the “Change…” button to install the correct one. If you do make changes to any of these settings, you’ll be prompted to restart afterward. Do so. If you changed your driver, you’ll need to run back thru this procedure to ensure depth, resolution and refresh rates are correct/as desired, then restart again.

It is easy to forget that incorrect adapter settings can both make a great monitor look crappy, an

      hi,

I too use a 17″ FLATRON (L.G) color monitor and often get the same distortion. this problem can be fixed in three ways one increasing the refresh rate >75Hz. another way is to get the latest driver and windows will automatically fix it.third remove all magnetic stuff from the vicinity of the monitor.
I hope this would help u
      Good Luck!
