DNS Errors

by kmcniff In reply to DNS Lookp Error

Since you have 2003 Server, why not install DNS on that server and do your own root lookups? Then point the workstations and itself to itself for DNS. Don't use forwarders and only one machine needs to make DNS requests to the Internet through the firewall. Even if you are not using AD just set up the DNS as if you were and all works well.
I have had the same issue with a number ISPs who had crummy DNS and constantly had issues using them through a firewall. Created my own DNS server and let it do root lookups and it has been stable ever since.
