DNS seeing IP but Not Domain Name on Solaris 8. Any suggestions?

Your question gives not much info, but i think you mean you can type in a domianname query and you get an ip adres in return but not reverse when you type the ip-adres you don't get the name..
If this is the case you should add a new reverse lookupzone.

I agree with zuidema@tfi....If DNS is running on this machine, then you are not running it completely. You have to have arp (address resolution protocol) and rarp (reverse address resolution protocol) running to get it to perform lookups in both directions. If the dns is running on another machine and this one cannot do lookups in both directions, then it could be that the dns is not running both arp and rarp, or it could be a permissions issue on the dns machine. Sometimes they are set up to not allow reverse lookups. Good luck! Jackie
