DNS SRV records required to locate domain controller ?

By jalfonso ·
I recently went to add a member server (a Newly installed server) to my domain controller (the only one in the LAN) and I received the following message:

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain bentrust.local:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.bentrust.local

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a domain controller for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a domain controller is added to a domain. They are updated by the domain controller at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with following IP addresses:

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:

. (the root zone)

How do I correct this DNS problem on my domain controller? - According to the message, the (which happens to be the IP of an external DNS server that is used for web resolution only) is not pointing to the domain controller in our LAN (whose FQDN name is BENTRUST.LOCAL).

Please help, anyone !!!!!

DNS error when you add a Windows XP-based computer to a Small Business Server 2000 domain
The error may occur if any one of the following conditions is true Windows XP is not configured to use a local DNS server.
? NetBIOS over TCP (NetBT) is disabled on Windows XP, and you are using the NetBT domain name when you try to add the computer.
? A third-party firewall program that is installed on the Windows XP-based computer is blocking DNS queries.
? You did not follow the recommended steps to set up Windows XP on a Small Business Server 2000 network.
