My family will sometimes freeze batteries claiming that it will save them longer, is this true?

I just did an internet search based on the thread title:

      Common myth
Storing batteries in the freezer is a common myth. While cold temperatures can slow down self-discharge, condensation upon removal can damage batteries. Most manufacturers recommend storing them in a cool, dry place at room temperature for optimal performance.

      Freezing? No.
      Cool? Yes.

The science is that most batteries are chemical and lower temps can slow down chemical reactions. Freezing however can damage many types of batteries.
