Domain controller rebuild

By gmarlow ·
I recently had my primary domain controller crash. The operating system was Windows Server 2000. My secondary controller which is also Server 2000 has taken over. I upgraded my primary controller to Server 2003 Enterprise edition after rebuilding it. How do I get it back into the domain and return it to it's role as primary domain controller? I have a 4 server domain. Aside from the rebuilt server the other 3 are Windows 2000 server operating systems.

replication

by gmarlow In reply to Steps

can you send me in the right direction on gaining information on how to replicate. This is something I haven't done. I am in the learning stages of this type of role. I would appreciate any help. I have looked for discussion on replication but have not found one clear enough for a beginner like me. Thank you

Must upgrade domain

by curlergirl In reply to Domain controller rebuild

A Windows 2003 server cannot be a domain controller on a Windows 2000 domain. You will need to run forestprep and domainprep from the Windows 2003 CD first before you can upgrade the Win2003 server to a domain controller. After that, the other guys are correct.
