Domain Issue

By moe_sizzlack002 ·
I am getting a lot of computers with the message "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found". It seems to be random computers, and random times, that this happens. Some computers have run for months without problem, and some ran for as little as two days, before this message would appear again. It is a simple fix, just join workgroup, then join the domain again, but it is a pain to keep doing this. I am wondering is there a way to prevent this from happening, or what is the root cause of this problem.

I have found

by Sue T In reply to Domain Issue

that most of the time all I need to do is restart the computer. On our end i believe it has to be an issue either with the domain controller or DNS. We use DHCP so the computers are getting their IP, DNS, etc. from the DHCP server so I know those are correct. It is also happening with our Mac computers only they don't give a message that actually tells you what is goin on. Sometimes just waiting a minute before logging on is all that is needed. It is also possible that we have a switch problem but it seems like this problem started when a secondary domain controller was added and the network admin isn't sure if this caused the problem or not or what to do to fix it. So I will be watching this question to see what others come up with. Unless the other options don't work for you I wouldn't not waste the time removing them from the domain and then rejoining them again.
Good luck.

DNS is correct

by moe_sizzlack002 In reply to I have found

I had about 20 machines do this today(there are hundreds of machines in the domain), and I checked that the DNS was handed out correctly. I have restarted the machines, and the problem still persisted.
Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming.
