Domain workgroup dns issues

by ferguson . Updated 19 years ago

I have a windows 2003 server and many windows
xp computers. The xp computers belong to the
same workgroup but do not to the 2003 domain.
I set them up this way because they don’t need
to access any shared resources on the server.
The xp computers use a tcpip application to connect directly to the 2003 server and sometime experience slow connections and sometimes drop and don’t work. Rebooting them sometimes works. My question is should the xp computers be members of the 2003 server domain instead of their own workgroup for tcpip applications and network dns to work correctly? On a corp network with a 2003 server
should xp workstations be added to the server
domain even if there are no shared resources
needed?
