Dosen't recognize memory upgrade

By mevoy ·
I have a 200 mhz mmx machine, I removed the 16 mb simm ram and installed two 64 mb 100 mhz sdram chips. The system still only recognizes the original 16 mb ram even though it has been removed from yhe system!
Ant Ideas on how I can get the system to regognize the sdram?

Go to the BIOS, usually accessed by pressing the Delete key during boot.
Find the update or refresh entry, enable it, then reboot.
This should get your BIOS to update and recognize any new RAM that has been added.

Have you checked to see if the Mb supports SDRAM? Some MB are picky about it. Machines such as Dell, uses a look and feel like SDRAM SIMM chips, but requires that you use SIMM 168 pins only. Meaning that eventhough the SDRAM chip fits the slot, the MB doesn't recognize it. The SIMMS 168 pins are expensive and hard to find. If I am right, perhaps, replacing your MB (only) is the best route.

Good luck!

Your memory module is not compatible with your memory bank. Are you sure that your 16MB is a SIMM (not an SDRAM with slower speed)? I asked because there is no way that an SDRAM will fit on a SIMM memory bank. You cannot use your 65MB SDRAM rate at 100MHz in your machine although it fits in the memory bank. Contact your supplier or store and exchange it for the one that is compatible with your system. State to them your PC make and model. That will help your supplier a lot and will give you theright memory upgrade.

Hope it helps. Enjoy!

Make sure that the *parity* of the new memory you just purchased is exactly the same as the memory that is currently in your system. If the parity is not equal then the computer will never recognize the memory you have installed. When you go to back to the store to replace the memory you just bought with the correct memory make sure you have spoken to your PC Manufacturer (Dell, Gateway, Ect...) to ask them the specific memory you must buy in order to upgrade your system. That is the best way. Ask your manufacturer and then go buy the memory. Never buy memory if you don't know what type or speed you have in your computer or what it can handle. Hope this helps you.

BOTTOM LINE IS IF THE BUS SPEED ON YOUR MOTHER BOARD IS 66 AND YOU WANT TO USE 100MH DIMM CHIPS WILL NOT WORK WITH YOUR BOARD YOU WILL NEED THE 66MHZ BUS SPEED SDRAM.cHECK THE OWNERS MANUAL

I beg to differ on that one I have another 200mhx MMX machine that accepted the 100mhz sdram ok, although the bus speed is only 66mhz.
