Dtected a virus, but cant delete it

By ashishshekhar ·
My antivirus software ( Trend PC-Cillin) has detected a Bagle.Z virus on my PC ( XP Home addition) at the following path but is unable to delete it :

C:\System Volume Information\_RESTORE{8D886871-9FF3-41BC-8498-31949104AB2E}\RP8\A000041.EXE

Any idea how I can delete this ?Have tried, but cant seem to find this path using windows explores or the MS DSOS prompt.

Thanks for any assistance.

Try using the Bagle removal tool, which should also include instructions

Or you can do a google search and d\l the stinger.exe. Will do the same thing.

If you have XP installed you will have to turn off system restore before taking out the virus. Right click on my computer then properties, System restore there should be a feature to shut it down. Then run stinger.exe. Once you do that update your virus software to obtain the latest definitions and it will take it out. If it does not take it out you need to change your AV program. You can d/l AVG anti-virus for free and it works like a charm.

in addition to Dmiles and Lmon's try removing in safe mode. NOTE: LMon's point of turning OFF system restore is Most Important. 99% of the reason most users running XP Home edition find they can't remove a virus via their antivirus software is that they have System Restore On. With System Restore on, XP will restore the virus from the last restore point.
