Dual monitors in XP – old graphics card

by shaun_powell . Updated 23 years, 3 months ago

I recently saw the dual monitor feature on XP being used and I had to have it – I often find myself struggling to toggle between applications open multi-windows. I have an Intel 815EEA motherboard with an ATI all-in-wonder AGP graphics card added (which disables the on-board AGP).

According to Intel documentation, I can add a PCI card and use the dual monitor capability. I was given an S3Trio64 PCI graphics card (86c764X chip). When I install it XP sees the card and identifies it an an S3 32/64, but states it is unable to start it. I cannot find a driver update on MS’s web site. In System / Hardware, there is a yellow exclamation mark against the card. Re-installing it makes no difference.

I have a feeling I need a newer graphics card. Would a new 32 Meg PCI card (eg SiS 305 which is about the only one I’ve been able to find) do the trick for me? Could anyone give me some ideas about setting this up.

Thanks
