DW.EXE error at startup

By peetree ·
For the last couple of days I have been receiving the following error message: "DW has caused an invalid page fault in module DW.EXE at 017f:0043122c..." NOTE - IT STARTED AFTER DOWLOADING THE NEW VERSION OF KAZAA, 1.7.2 .

I have done a search for DW.EXE and found a site describing what it is and how to rectify the error, but it gives conflicting descriptions. I am going here because your advice sofar has been helpful and explicative.

DW.EXE error at startup

It could be Kazaa or it could be the error reporting app from Microsoft included with Office XP and IE6. If you're using Win98 through WinME click Start->Run and type MsConfig. Go to the Startup tab and look for an entry for Dw.exe. Notice where theapp is starting from. If it's Office XP or IE6 it will probably starting from one of those directories (but I'm not sure) and it doesn't hurt to disable it (unless you really like sending information to Microsoft everytime you get an error). In any case, you can disable it either way by clearing the checkbox to the left of the entry (this does not uninstall the program but only prevents it from running at startup). Save and reboot your pc. The problem should be gone.

Enjoy,
