Editing What Starts Up in Windows 2000

By qhcomputingny ·
Hello,

Can someone tell me how to edit the registry in order to choose what I want and don't want to start in my taskbar after I reboot my Windows 2000 Professional Workstation. In 98 there was msconfig and in 2000 they seem to have left that out.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, Win2K does not have MSCONFIG, but if you can still get your hands on a Win98/M3 box, just copy MSCONFIG.EXE onto a floppy and paste it onto the Win2K box. It does work!
You get 4 startup errors running it on Win2K, since autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini and system.ini don't exist in Win2K. But that is ok. Just click OK on the errors and ignore them.
Then the normal MSCONFIG window comes up.
Just click the Startup tab, and unselect everything you don't want to run.

It is just easierthis way than plowing through the Registry to get rid of the stuff.
