Enabeling VPN behind router

By wildtypitch ·
I have a BT modem BT2700HGV, by 2wire. Ihave been trying to set up a VPN but I can't connect to it. I have selected to open the port in the standard rollout of ports entitled pptp server. I try to connect but never get past the verifying password stage.

Double-check Server ports

Be sure to open those ports on the VPN server's firewall as well (TCP 1723, GRE 47).
Also, what is the setup? i.e. WinXP as the VPN server and XP as the client, or Server2003 as the server? Or is it a Linux based VPN setup?

by wildtypitch In reply to Double-check Server ports

WinXP as VPN server and vista as client. How do I open GRE 47? I've never come across GRE just UDP and TCP
