Epson DFX Printer and Windows 98

By rwoodley ·
One of the departments at the company I work for uses Epson DFX printers pretty heavily. Most of the PCs in this area are still running Win95 for one simple reason. When we install Win98 and try to print to one of the DFX printers, the text looks like you've set the printer to condensed mode or something. I even set up 2 PCs side by side (one with 95, one with 9 and noticed the difference even on the Windows Test Page. We've tried copying the DLLs from 95 to 98 that the test page makes reference to, using different Epson drivers (FX1050, FX880, etc), and used the generic/text driver. The generic/text driver came the closest but it doesn't work well for all of the programs that need to print to these printers. Has anyone seen this issue before? Know of any solutions??
Thanks in advance.

Before I can help you, please provide the exact model numbers for the DFX Printers. Thanks!

The majority of DFX printers at 5000's. There are a few 5000+ and 8000's mixed in but it seems to happen no matter which model is being printed to. Additionally, we've been able to use the Generic/Text Only driver as long as the CPI is set to a specific size on the printer. Now I'm just more confused why I haven't found anything else about this. Surely we are not the only place using Win98 to print to DFX printers.
