Error printing e-mail attachments

By dkstanford ·
I have a Windows NT 4.0 machine and use Netscape 4.75 for browsing and e-mail. When trying to print an e-mail attachment to a local printer, "Error writing to LPT1: for document KewView Pro(kw15.tmp). The request could not be performed because of anI/O device error". The attached documents display fine, they just won't print. I can print any other document or e-mail fine. It doesn't seem to matter what the attachment is, PDF or Word Or Mozilla.
Can anyone give me some ideas why this might be happening and what I can do to fix it?

Have you tried saving the attachment to disk then opening it up from there to print? I have a very finiky printer and some times have to sneak in the back door to get things done with it.

As a quick work around copy and paste your attachment into a word document and print it using word.

Sometimes this problem can only be resolved by installation of a bi-directional printing cable. The standard printer cable available in most stores is only a single-direction cable. In order to effectively print from Netscape, you may have to replace your cable with one available from or a compatible IEEE bi-directional cable.

Try turning off the printer and turning back on. Reboot your PCand try printing the attachment. If that fails to work it is probabley a problem with Netscape.

If you have were able to use that function in the past maybe that option has become corrupted. Download an updated driver for your printer.

Try removing and reinstalling Netscape 4.7 or try a newer version.
Keep in mind if you just reinstall without removing the previous version and have corrupted files that they won't be replaced and might continue to cause problems. By removing and then reinstalling the software, you replace all of its files, not just the newest ones.

Since you can print out all of your other documents and If this is just an inconvience I would leave things alone unless you start getting other errors.

DO some routine maintainence, erase all your temp directory files, erase your internet temporary files, download adaware from www.lavasoft.de and remove all spyware, clear out *.tmp files from anywhere they reside, and then see if your printing works. Good luck, if nothing else at least you now have a fairly cleaned up system.

Bring up the attachment.
Select all.
Open MS-Word.
Paste.
Print.

Printer Driver/Setup:

Do take a look at Netscape's priting setup. See if correct driver appears. Also do change the default cache directory of netscape to somewhere else less cluttered.
