This problem is relayed to me second-hand, so the information may be incomplete.
My friend ran ScanDisk and Defrag. After Defrag was done, he got an Explorer fail notice. The information was in the standard gray dialog box with the Details button. Upon hitting that button, he saw the error was caused by KERNEL32.dll with offset address and the usual dump.
He then cycled past that and shut down the machine for the evening. This morning, he fires it up and gets a message that Exploreragain failed, this time while working with MSHTML.DLL.
He is apparently able to continue his work, but this is troublesome.
As of this writing, I am unable to contact him by phone and I have to be out of touch for a while today. But if I get more info, I will post it as a continuation to this.
Ideas? 500 points should inspire some of you!
Thanks in advance.
