I have a user with a problem with her flash drives. She is running Windows XP, in Active Directory on Windows Server 2003, with network drives mapped. Computer has a hard drive with single partition (C:) and a DVD (D:). Network drives start with (H:) and move up the alphabet from there.
She can’t find her flash drives when she plugs them in. I’ve looked at Drive Manager (Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management) and I can see the flash drives properly installed, partitioned, formatted and assigned the letters E: and F:
I’ve tried changing to other available letters but nothing happens in her My Computer view.
I’ve had her remove the flash drives while I watched Drive Manager. I’ve seen them wink out and come back when she removes them and re-attaches them, but she still can’t see them.
I’ve had her reboot with the flash drives connected to their USB ports. On login she can then see the flash drives, but if she removes them and re-attaches them, they don’t return to the My Computer view.
What is going on and how do I fix it?
