fax servers

By sgrosso ·
We have recently installed 2 biscom 5000 fax servers that will not pick up when called. The phone system is run through a Lucent Definity switch. Now I have connectivity between the 2 closets and I know that the 2 systems are seeing each other. Lucent remotely dialed into the switch and looked at the configuration, they said their end is set up as it should be. Both systems are set up with wink/wink protocals and DID, directed inbound dialing, but when called, the fax servers don't seem to want to pick up the phone. I know this is some-what general, but numerous things have been tried and we are willing to see any answers.

Just a couple of suggestions, no answers...

Your fax server usually have an option to check if you want to receive incoming calls or not. If it's already configured to receive incoming fax and it's still not receiving, then disable your fax server services and startup a communications program (like HyperTerminal) to accept incoming call on one of those modem ports. Dial that fax server computer from another computer to see if it picks up. If you can connect to that computer, then the modems are not the issue - it probably is the fax server configuation (some thing like the fax server modem initialization string). If you can't connect to even HyperTerminal then it might be a windows/modem configuration issue. Proceed on from there...
