File Transfers

By gaberose ·
Im just looking for some success or horror stories on the best way to do file transfers, Ex.switching files from old system to new system. I have an external hard drive i plan on using along with MS back and restore. I was wondering if there is a third party software available that has more utilities or if MS is the weapon of choice.

Drive 2 Drive

by Oz_Media In reply to File Transfers

There are a lot of similar tools available on CNET or ZDNET for imaging or file copying from a one hard drive to another.
I've used Drive2Drive by Future Systems and it works fast and accurately.

Once the new OS is installed

Pull the HD out of the old computer and slave it to the new hard drive. Now just copy everything you want directly and then remove it. You don't need any programs, it just takes more time that way...

Norton Ghost

by rkuhn In reply to File Transfers

Yes, don't necessarily follow itpro@aol's advice.

It totally depends upon what you are copying over. You could seriously screw up some system files like .dll's that some of your various programs may have changed or updated.

Use a good programlike Norton Ghost.
