Derek… you may have to check this with the sys. admin, because you may not be allowed to get through the fire wall… in some instances a “socks” server must be set up on the firewall to allow you to access the net with programs like icq… and doing that can in some cases cause a security hole that may be undesirable on your network… since these are admin tasks you may not be able to get any info on firewall settings for obvious reasons

The port is being blocked by your company for certain reasons. Most likely they are security but also to prevent the use of programs like ICQ, AOL Instant Messager, Yahoo pager, etc.

THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET INTO THE FIREWALL WITHOUT YOU KNOWING THE USERNAME AND PASSWORD. EVEN IF YOU DID GET INTO IT AND CHANGED SOMETHING THE ADMINISTRATOR WOULD KNOW THE EXACT WORKSTATION YOU WERE SITTING AT AND WHO WAS LONGED IN AT THAT TIME. YOU’RE OUT OF LUCK.

You really do not need bother with the fire wall at all. It is in place for protection from people who know just enuff to get into trouble. But here is a clue, subsitute the firewall’s address in your gateway with the router’s address. Here is the joke, you need to get it (router’s address) from the administrator . lol

ICQ uses port 4000 and most Admins shut down that port. I know you can go into preferences and change the port. To check what your Network Proxy settings are use the following

      With Netscape:
      Edit > Prefrences > Advanced > Proxy
If set to noeproxy then you may make it thru like on some networks. If set to use proxy try with out (see if you can pull a web page then ) but if set to use Proxy then select view settings and you will see what ports are open. Chances are you can place your ICQ on port 80. Of course I do not know if ICQ will run on that port. You will notice your ICQ server and then :4000 well change that. That is the ports.

      If using IE or not!
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings button > and from there you can view your settings.

      Good luck!
