Firewall Appliance for a Small Business - Exchange Friendly

By Zpunky ·
I need to replace our Firewall, our FVS318 by NetGear isn't playing well with our hosted Exchange service. (Basically, I can't create a rule or a 'Trusted Domain' to allow full port access to our provider's bank of Exchange servers.)

I'm looking at the WatchGuard X55e and the SonicWall NSA 240. Anyone have any feedback on either of these devices, or perhaps a device I should review?

Cisco ASA

I have had alot of experience with Watchguards, not much with NetGear. I have experienced some flakyness with the Watchguards, them freezing up, having to reboot now and then. Especially in VPN configuations. I highly recommend throwing Cisco ASA into consideration. Very reliable, most compatable with remote devices. May be more expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Is there a GUI interface? I'm not familiar with Cisco's command line.

There is a GUI interface for the ASAs. It's called ASDM. Here is a link you can actually download a trial version that has actual deployment configs you can demo without connecting to a device.
