First Login as Supervisor

By marka ·
This is my first netware server using 3.12 software. I understand that the supervisor account is created automatically upon creating the server but what is the password, if anything?

When you first login as supervisoer it will tell you that your current password has expired and it will ask for a new one. Give it whatever you wish and that will be your supervisor password.

Like the first answer said, but what he didn't say was that you will not be asked to enter a password to be told it has expired, you will get the message immediately after logging on as supervisor & hitting the return key.
If this is your first server ever, the first thing you should do is to create a SECOND supervisor account (not supervisor-equivalent) in case your bindery ever gets screwed & the supe account goes awol.
Welcome to the world of stable and low hardware requirement network servers (unlike NT)!

This is an interesting dilema... because the actual super duper supervisor password is created during the install and can never be changed.. as in never ever. You need that to login as supervisor / admin in bindery mode. In the classes i took, the instructors gave a suggestion to use the following:
sysman admin superman

in the systems that i had to work on, and the password was "lost" i found one of the above to work on all but one system. Apparently the cna courses were aware of thispitfall and coached the use of a password that the "next guy" could figure out.

When Netware 3.x is install or the bindery files become corrupted beyond use, there are two accounts on the server. SUPERVISOR and GUEST. Both accaunts will have no password. I really don't recall every getting a password experation message. On a few servers I have set up for temporary testing, I left the supervisor password blamk for months. For basic file & print services nothing beats the Netware 3.12 server. Using a 486 with 32meg memory and a scsi hard drive it will outperform NT4 on a P133 with twice the ram and fast-wide scsi hard drives at file & print services. But if you ever need server-side apps like sybase or oracle databases, go NT. The nlm versions were all dog slow and prone to server abends.
