This is usually the cable from the motherboard to the floppy.
The problem is that the cables are cheap.
Over time the wire in the cable corrodes where the insulation has been displaced so the wire and the contact meet.
When you moved the cable during motherboard replacement, one of the wires lost contact in the connector.
Thus: The first troubleshooting step is to try a different cable.
Regards, Chris

Make sure that it is plugged in the right way. When the computer boots, make sure floppy drive light is OFF. If it's ON, then the cable is plugged in the wrong way. Also check the bios to enable floppy drive.

Cheers

The Floppy disk fail (40) errors are related to the computer floppy drive. ssue CH000454.

Cause:

This issue can be caused by any of the following possibilities:

Floppy cable not connected properly
Bad floppy cable
Bad Floppy drive - I/O
Solution:

Floppy cable not connected properly

Verify that the floppy disk drive cable is properly connected. See document CH000277 for additional help and information about connecting the floppy drive as well as setting it up properly.

Ifthe floppy disk drive light stays on and does not shut off see document CH000278.

Bad floppy cable

If the floppy disk drive appears to be setup properly an the light is not always on it is possible that the floppy drive cable may be bad. We recommend you visit a local computer hardware store and purchase a new cable.

Bad Floppy drive - I/O

If the issue persists unfortunately it is likely that either the floppy drive is bad or the I/O board or Motherboard is bad. We recommend you have the contact the computer manufacturer, have the computer serviced or that you replace the floppy drive then the motherboard if the issue persists.
